About Meghan Whitman

Meghan Whitman, owner and trainer at A Driving Force Sport Horse Development LLC, is a horse trainer and instructor with a passion for empowering horses and their humans to achieve their goals while honoring their individuality. Her approach prioritizes understanding behavior as communication, emotional adaptability, functional movement, and the development of technical skills that allow each horse and rider to participate confidently in the arena of their choice.

Meghan’s work supports horses in developing strength, clarity, and confidence in ways that respect their unique needs, while equipping humans with applicable, transferable skills. At the core of her program is education—of both horse and human—through an approach that fosters authenticity, curiosity, a willingness to learn, and a genuine love of the horse, with the goal of creating more harmonious, resilient partnerships.

Her equine experiences began in 2008. Immediately, she was hooked for life and always knew she'd be a trainer. She has never lost the horse-crazy kid inside and has developed that love into being a skilled and passionate trainer and instructor who cherishes deepening the horse-human connection and building a better understanding of communication with our beloved horses. Meghan believes that true partnership comes from listening to the horse and guiding them towards clarity, curiosity, and play with trust, patience, and respect. She is equally committed to ensuring her students gain independence, confidence, and the tools to become capable partners for their own horses.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Equine Management and has past experiences working as an equine veterinary assistant and as a working student for Tik Maynard and Sinead Halpin-Maynard, giving her a well-rounded perspective on horse care and training across multiple disciplines and levels. She continues her education with frequent lessons herself and takes opportunities to continue learning by traveling to support other professionals in their endeavors as well. Being a lifelong learner is an important mindset she fosters in herself and her students. She is passionate about equine welfare, blending training methodologies for clarity, and focusing on a well-rounded training program honoring the horse as a sentient being.

Meghan offers full-time training, part-time training, lessons, workshops, consulting support for new and seasoned horse owners and riders, and virtual educational resources and services. A Driving Force

Behind the Name

A Driving Force Sport Horse Development is named after Meghan's first horse she owned. "A Driving Force," more commonly known as "Dewey," is a bay appendix gelding. When Meghan first met Dewey in 2013, he was 12 years old and had no person or job. Over the years, Meghan learned some transformative lessons and ultimately gained incredible horsemanship skills from a gelding who taught her what it meant to love authentically and selflessly. She competed with him in local pleasure horse shows as well as local hunter/jumper shows and schooled on the cross-country course. Feeling full of gratitude for the journey and companionship he gifted Meghan, she felt it fitting that her business be named after him. Dewey passed away December 2024 after enjoying a well-earned retirement but he lives on in Meghan's heart and business.

Force = Horse

The force behind all of this is simply, the horse. The definition of force is "strength or energy as an attribute of physical action or movement." The horse is the energy and strength behind Meghan. The horse drives her to further her knowledge and skill set within multiple areas of expertise to provide the best handling methods she can offer to each horse that crosses her path. The horse guides her to be better in all aspects of her life in and out of the arena. There is something about the presence and education a horse brings to one's life that cannot be matched. It is Meghan's passion to share this experience with others through all of her services.
